Our Story
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart - Luke 2:19
My husband Stasiek and I grew up in a traditional Polish Catholic immigrant family. We would go to mass on Sundays, holy days of obligation and occasionally volunteered at the local parish. Despite this, we had a pretty average prayer life. Often, we squeezed a couple of “Hail Mary’s” at the end of a long day - already with the lights off and sometimes half asleep. However, this all changed when we went on the Camino pilgrimage (to Santiago de Compostela) on our 12th wedding anniversary. The Camino gifted us with long periods of silence, contemplation and, through grace, a deep desire to grow in our relationship with God.
On our return home, we desired to maintain that sense of beauty, space and stillness. We slowly developed a new ritualised habit of prayer. First, we wanted to create a beautiful atmosphere when we prayed. This included dimming the lights, lighting a candle and having some freshly picked flowers, a statue of Mary, a Crucifix and Holy Water on our coffee table. Over time, we added items of personal spiritual significance (like a “Camino shell”).
We also scheduled a specific time to pray - around 10 minutes in the morning and at night. Our prayer included silent contemplation, scripture, set prayers such as litanies and spontaneous prayers of gratitude/petition. Through this prayer routine, we have found our hearts becoming more aware of God’s presence in the everyday…and now we can’t live without it!
This prayer has transformed us so much that we felt inspired to create a starter “Ponder Pack” (the name is inspired by Luke’s gospel passage above). First, this Ponder Pack was developed as a gift for our newly baptised parishioners. This quickly evolved into distributing thousands of Ponder Prayer Cards to our friends, family and community. The demand has been so great that we decided to put together this website in order to distribute the resources more broadly. As we both have full-time work, this has become a “passion project” for us - with proceeds from sales going into developing new resources and distributing to those who may not usually afford it, or have access to it.
We hope that our ponder resources may encourage you in your prayer life and bless you with abundant Love and Grace that can only come through a personal relationship with Christ.
